The Gospel of Mark – #15 – The Exceeding Sinfulness of Sin
At times, the Bible reveals sin in all its fully exposed ugliness to help us see what all sin looks like to God.  As we approach the man filled with the “Legion” we find that sin does what it always does - it seeks to destroy.

The Gospel of Mark – #14 – The Most Foolish Question
All of us are prone to ask foolish questions - especially when the pressures and challenges of life are intensified, and the waves of trouble seem to be a critical point.  Yes, the challenges the disciples faced were real as their boat was filling fast.  Yet, didn’t Jesus say, “Let us pass over to the other side”?  How hurtful must have been the question asked, “Carest thou not that we perish?"

The Gospel of Mark – #13 – Glowing, Showing, Sowing, Growing
Life can be confusing.  But rather than confuse, Jesus came to bring clarity out of the noise and confusion of this world.  He often did so by providing clarity through parables.  He was giving a window into the work of His Kingdom.  These four, small parables offer big encouragement for all who have “ears to hear.”

The Gospel of Mark – #12 – The Sower, the Seed, and the Soil
Mark introduces us to the first parable he records in his Gospel.  A parable begins as an intriguing picture that captures our attention.  Then, before you know it, the picture turns into a mirror and begins to show you yourself.  Jesus was about to reveal the 4 types of soil upon with the sower would broadcast the seed, and in the process, give His disciples both a window and a mirror.

The Gospel of Mark – #11 – Seeing and Believing
We often use the expression, “Seeing is believing.”  Sadly, that is not always the case.  The Pharisees, Herodians, and Scribes all saw the wonderful works of God.  Yet they finally resorted to claiming that what they saw God do was actually the work of Satan.  Is seeing necessary for believing?  Thankfully, we have an even more sure Word.

The Gospel of Mark – #10 – Lord of the Sabbath
God gave the Sabbath, but the Pharisees so grossly modified it that it became unrecognizable.  Jesus, as Lord of the Sabbath, came to give true Sabbath rest or all who would believe Him.  What an incredible opportunity, still offered to us today!

The Gopsel of Mark – #9 – House Calls
The greatest Healer Who ever lived is Jesus.  Better, yet, He was willing to make house calls!  His prescription was unlike any doctor people had ever met.  His prescription was effective only for those who recognized their needs - people like publicans, sinners … even tax collectors!  And, it still works for you and me today!

The Gospel of Mark – #8 – “What do you really want?”
Jesus knows better than to give us what we think we truly want. Instead, He gives us what we truly need, and we find we got what we truly wanted after all. The paralytic that Jesus healed thought he knew what he truly wanted.  Jesus knew better.

The Gospel of Mark – #7 – “If You Wanted To”
A leper came to Jesus saying that, if Jesus wanted to, He could heal him.  We, like the leper, often believe that Jesus is able to do good, we just hesitate when wondering if He really wants to.  Of course, Jesus wanted good for the leper then, just as He longs for good for His children now.  And, not only did He desire to do good, He did it!

The Gospel of Mark – #6 – The Quiet Place
While Mark hardly allows the reader to catch his breath, Jesus certainly does take time to do so. He rises, long before the sun does, and finds a place of isolation, a time for preparation, and a focused clarification. What a wonderful example He left for us to do the same.
