The Gospel of Mark – #8 – “What do you really want?”
Jesus knows better than to give us what we think we truly want. Instead, He gives us what we truly need, and we find we got what we truly wanted after all. The paralytic that Jesus healed thought he knew what he truly wanted.  Jesus knew better.

The Gospel of Mark – #7 – “If You Wanted To”
A leper came to Jesus saying that, if Jesus wanted to, He could heal him.  We, like the leper, often believe that Jesus is able to do good, we just hesitate when wondering if He really wants to.  Of course, Jesus wanted good for the leper then, just as He longs for good for His children now.  And, not only did He desire to do good, He did it!

The Gospel of Mark – #6 – The Quiet Place
While Mark hardly allows the reader to catch his breath, Jesus certainly does take time to do so. He rises, long before the sun does, and finds a place of isolation, a time for preparation, and a focused clarification. What a wonderful example He left for us to do the same.

The Gospel of Mark – #5 – His Absolute & Amazing Authority
Mark now helps us understand the extent of Jesus’ authority.  And, needless to say, His authority was both absolute and amazing.  He is an authority of the Word because He is the Living Word.  He has authority over the devils because He is all sovereign over all. Jesus has authority over sickness because He is the ultimate physician.  The only question that remains is, will we submit to His absolute and amazing authority!

The Gospel of Mark – #4 – The Call
While it may be true that they were fishermen, it shouldn’t be concluded that they were simpletons.  These were successful business men who knew their trade and how to make it work.  Yet, they were called into a new vocation - fishers of men.  Actually, we know more about the kind of men that these first disciples were.  They were … just like you and me - imperfect people that God used to “turn the world upside down.”

The Gospel of Mark – #3 – The Will of the Father
Jesus was driven by the Spirit into the wilderness and, while some may look at this as an unnecessary detour, it was clearly part of the divine plan of God.  Jesus left for us a pattern for power that is as relevant today as it was when it was given to Him by the Father.  Triumph can only follow the temptation, and, you can’t have one without the other.

The Gospel of Mark – #2 – Three Witnesses
Mark jumps into his Gospel account of the life of Christ by removing any doubt as to exactly Who Jesus really is.  With the skill of a careful lawyer presenting his case, Mark calls three witnesses to the stand who will emphatically declare that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.

The Gospel of Mark – #1 – A Call to Action
A Call to Action - For centuries, the Gospel of Mark has been viewed as the “little brother” of the Gospels.  However, as we’ve come to understand this Gospel more fully, we’ve begun to see, not only that it was the first of the Gospels written, but also the power and impact of this account of Jesus’ life, and its power to transform ours!

God Created #2 – Values Change (Truth does not)
    Series: God Created
All of us place different “value” on things.  For example, we pay more for a hot dog at a ballpark than we do at the grocery store.  Why?  Because at that moment, it is more “valuable.”  But truth does not change with our valuations.  It is that which is true for all people, all places and all times.

God Created #1 – No Middle Ground
    Series: God Created
God’s recorded history with mankind opens with, “In the beginning, God created…”  Either this statement is true, and we can go on to have confidence in all that God has said, or it is false, and we can have confidence in nothing that God has said.  In this concise, yet powerful statement, we find that there is, in fact, no middle ground.
